Romanian electrical installation and equipment specialist Promelek XXI, part of Spain’s Elektra Group, said on Thursday that it aims to install 400 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by the year’s end.
In this market, the company anticipates sales to increase by 15% annually, Promelek XXI said in a press release.
In the last two years the demand for EV charging stations has doubled, according to Promelek XXI’s estimates. At end-2022, there were 1,350 such charging stations in Romania.
“Seeing these upward trends, we decided to expand our business line dedicated to stations of electric charging and to focus assiduously on the development of this infrastructure,” said Karol Nagy, Promelek XXI director general.
About 20% of the sales in this niche are intended for the residential sector, 60% of products will be placed at public spaces, HoReCa and office buildings, and 20% will be used for transport charging infrastructure, especially for electric trucks.
In the residential segment, typical customers usually come from middle and upper class families making more than 3,000 euro ($3,340) per month.
Promelek XXI was established in 1996 under the brand name Promod. In 2011, it joined Spain’s electrical material distribution specialist Elektra Group, which now owns 77.6% shareholding interest.
