BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 22 Electricity production in Tajikistan increased by a record 3.8 percent in 2022, Trend reports citing a review by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).
According to the bank, electricity generation by EDB member countries increased by 0.6 percent in 2022. The growth in electricity generation in Armenia amounted to 16.1 percent, in Belarus (from January to November 2022) – up to 2 percent, in Russia – up to 0.6 percent.
At the same time, electricity generation in Kazakhstan decreased by 1.4 percent, in Kyrgyzstan – by 8.4 percent in 2022. Countries have to compensate for the shortage of electricity through imports from neighboring countries.
According to the Agency on Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, the country generated more than 19.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-November 2022.
It should be noted that approximately 93.8 percent of electricity in Tajikistan was produced by hydroelectric power plants.
As reported, the export of electricity from Tajikistan in 2022 exceeded $106 million, which is an increase of 10.6 percent compared to 2021.
In 2022, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan were the main buyers of electricity in Tajikistan.
